Cocktail Party "Re:Clay on Fire"
Chandon will host an Artist Reception with ceramic artists Rhue Julius Bruggeman and Erin Dowling-Michael. The artists will be available to discuss their work on property and the very successful "Familiar Forms and Faces" exhibit currently on display throughout the Visitor Center. The artists will also demonstrate the firing process, as they fire tiles in a mobile kiln.
Rhue Bruggeman and Erin Dowling-Michael invented the process of reclay painting here in the Napa Valley. The work shown at Chandon in 2012 is an exclusive exposition of this innovative technique. The use of traditional layering of color, material and texture to create composition with imagery on a clay canvas is synthesized with heat and imprinted by fire. The affects from the heat and fire are revealed after the cans cool and the ash is brushed away. After sanding, a layer of India ink applied and manipulated to enhance the imagery and crackle within the glaze. Each piece is polished and wired for hanging.
Domaine Chandon will offer wines by the glass and specialty cocktails for purchase during the event.
