Carneros Pinot Noir, Clone 667, 2011
Clone 667 is grown in a section of our Carneros vineyard noted for its haire clay loam. The blocks ripen at varying times. Once ripe, 667 provides heft to a finished wine, which in this wine is balanced by separating the three lots it’s comprised of during fermentation. Two of the lots receive extended maceration while the third is fermented with whole clusters. The result is a wine with greater complexity and marked cherry flavors.
Hibiscus, red and black cherry, blueberry and Old Bay Seasoning mingle in the aromas of this wine. On the palate juicy, ripe cherry, strawberry and boysenberry flavors are dominant.
Food and Wine Pairing
In a group tasting, everyone agreed this wine would be delicious opposite the table from trout on a bed of sautéed kale topped with pine nuts, lentils with lardons or veal scallopine. Even a simple dish of cannellini beans cooked with rosemary would make a fine match.
